Australia’s first dedicated gin distillery, Kangaroo Island Spirits has been recognised in the biggest spirits awards competition in the world.
The distilling team has been awarded the highest accolade - a Gold Outstanding medal - for its O Gin at the 2023 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC).
Considered to be the Oscars of the global drinks industry, the IWSC is the world’s largest and most prestigious international competition for spirits with thousands of entries from over 50 different countries.
Kangaroo Island Spirits also received silver medals for its Old Tom Gin, Spiced Pudding Gin and Whisky Barrel Aged Gin and Head Distiller Charlie Schmidt couldn’t be prouder.
"The competition was tough this year with a record number of entries, and it’s awesome to think that our gin is one of the best in the world,” he says.
“These awards are a tribute to the dedication and to receive a score of 98 for our O Gin shows the world our distilling talents here in Australia.”
Managing Director of Mighty Craft Mark Haysman agrees. “These awards confirm that Kangaroo Island Spirits represents the pinnacle of premium spirits, not only in Australia, but the world.
“Charlie and the distilling team are highly skilled at making spirits that capture a rare purity of flavours and place, and it’s great to see them receive international recognition,” he says.
