Michael, CABN X St Albans

Michael, owner of CABN, embodies the spirit of an Island Guardian. His commitment to sustainability and conservation is evident throughout the unique accommodation experience he offers on Kangaroo Island.

CABN prioritizes environmental responsibility. They educate guests about the delicate ecosystem at Cape Saint Albans, where the cabins are located. This includes raising awareness about the endangered white-bellied seagull and the protected plover bird habitats on the property. CABN also actively supports the feral cat eradication program, recognising the threat these animals pose to native wildlife.

"It's important for us to be a part of a community that cares for the country," Michael explains. "We are just custodians of this land, and we need to leave it better than we found it for future generations."

CABN's commitment extends beyond education. They are actively engaged in land regeneration efforts, having planted over 1,400 native vegetation trees and bushes on the property. Additionally, the entire operation runs off-grid, minimising their environmental impact.

While CABN currently holds Quality Tourism Accreditation, they are actively pursuing EcoTourism Australia certification and B Corp status. They are also working on implementing a system to measure their carbon footprint.

"We recognize there's always room for improvement," Michael says. "We're constantly developing new ways to connect with our guests and partners about our sustainability initiatives."

CABN exemplifies "Tourism for Good" by prioritising responsible practices, environmental stewardship, and positive community impact. Their commitment allows guests to enjoy a luxurious escape while leaving a positive footprint on Kangaroo Island.
